Schwartz eyes Pac-12 suitors
Colorado Springs (CO) Sand Creek shooting guard D'Shawn Schwartz is having a big junior season. He’s currently averaging 20 points and eight rebounds per game and has his team poised to make a run in the state tournament in Colorado.
His recruitment is still in the early stages, but he’s reeled in offers from Colorado, Colorado State, Rice, VCU and Washington State along with interest from Arizona State and Stanford. He’s taken multiple unofficial visits to Colorado already.
IN HIS OWN WORDS: Schwartz made it pretty clear that his intention is to play college basketball in the Pac-12. With that, he told us what stands out about the four schools in the conference that are recruiting him.
Colorado: “I think it’s a really good program. Coach Tad [Boyle] is doing good things up there. He’s definitely doing a good job. They are definitely pushing the staying-in-state card.”
Stanford: “The issue with them right now is my ACT. They are doing alright this year. It’s tough that they have been hit with the injury bug this season. Other than that, I think they are pretty good. I like their coaches and they do a good job recruiting.”
Arizona State: “They have been having an up-and-down year. I like the way they play. They don’t have the talent they want just yet, but Bobby Hurley has big plans there.”
Washington State: “They aren’t as high as the other schools, but definitely have some interest there. I don’t know a ton about them and haven’t talked to all their coaches, but I like that they are in the Pac-12.”
WHAT’S NEXT?: Schwartz’s immediate focus is on helping lead his team on run in the state tournament and then he’ll turn his focus to his last year of travel ball this summer. After that, he’ll start moving towards making a decision, which could come during the early signing period right before his senior season starts.
RIVALS’ REACTION: Arizona State, Colorado and Stanford are the schools standing out to Schwartz right now. Given that Colorado is the only school in that group to offer a scholarship and have him on campus, it’s probably a safe bet to say they are in the lead. Offers from the other two as well as other Pac-12 schools could shake up his recruitment.
