Pelham, Ala. power forward Alex Reese emerged early in his high school career as a priority in the 2017 class for several schools in the southeast. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, UAB and Vanderbilt jumped into the mix early, but more schools such Cincinnati, Kansas and Texas recently joined them on his list.

During the April recruiting periods, the four-star prospect had each of the in-state programs stop by his house for home visits.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Reese broke down what he discussed with each school during the home visits.

Alabama: “I got to talk to the new assistant coach, coach [John] Pelphrey. He talked about how I could come in and help them right away.”

Auburn: “They said a lot of the same. They talked about their style of play and how I could fit into what they do there.”

UAB: “That was big time for [Rob Ehsan] to get his first head coaching job. I like how he came in and talked about the style of play and how they could use me at the four.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Reese said he plans to take his official visits during the fall and make a decision afterwards. He’s been active in taking unofficial visits, particularly to the in-state schools, so expect that to continue with him.

RIVALS' REACTION

Reese says he’s open to all schools, but talk behind the scenes is that a couple of schools may be surging to the front of his recruitment. Auburn appeared to be the likely destination for a while, but that talk has died down. It now appears as if Alabama and UAB have the edge going into the summer for his services. Prior to the coaching change, Vanderbilt was in deep with Reese. It will be worth watching to see if Bryce Drew tries to build off the momentum built up by Kevin Stallings’ staff.
