Growth spurt increases interest in Claxton

Greenville (S.C.) Legacy Charter power forward Nicolas Claxton isn't a household name yet in recruiting circles, but it might not be long before that happens for the 2017 Rivals150 prospect.
A recent growth spurt has him now standing at 6-foot-8 and that has increased the intrigue for college coaches. The three-star prospect says he now has offers from Clemson, Florida State, Wake Forest, Murray State, South Carolina, Temple, Baylor and Maryland along with heavy interest from Arizona, Georgia, Ohio State and Texas.

The most recent school to put out a scholarship offer to Claxton is Clemson, a school he's already visited unofficially.
"I know they really let their players play freely," Claxton said. "They trust their players. I like their system there."
Down the road in Columbia, the South Carolina Gameocks have started to make a push for the in-state forward. Frank Martin's coaching style has caught Claxton's attention.
"I like Coach Martin. He gets everything out of his players that he can. I like his coaching style," he said.
Claxton's father, Charles Claxton, was an All-SEC player at Georgia in the early 1990s and went on to get drafted by the Boston Celtics. The Bulldogs haven't pulled the trigger on an offer, but there is mutual interest.
"I like Georgia," Claxton said. "I grew up a Georgia fan, but I'm just looking for the best fit right now. I like Coach (Mark Fox) and his offensive schemes and everything there. I go there pretty often. It's a really nice place."
As for a decision, Claxton has plenty of time to make one and plans to use it.
"I'm not sure when I'm going to commit. I'm just looking for the best fit right now."
