Five-star center Ikey Obiagu breaks down five major schools

Five-star center Ikey Obiagu (Decatur, Ga./Greenforest Christian Academy) has developed a reputation over the past couple years as one of the best rim protectors in the country, regardless of the class.

College coaches have taken notice of his ability as he now has offers from schools all over the country after helping the Georgia Stars win the 16-under Peach Jam championship last summer, followed by a state championship with his high school earlier this month.

Earlier this week, the 6-foot-11 shot swatter added a new offer from Louisville. Interest has also come in from Arizona and NC State. Georgia, Georgia Tech, Baylor, Texas, Kansas, UConn, California, Iowa and Iowa State are also involved in his recruitment.

IN HIS OWN WORDS ...

Obiagu discussed his newest offer as well as what he likes about other programs involved in his recruitment.

Louisville: “Coach [Rick] Pitino has experience with big men ... I’ve only talked to the assistant coach so far. I haven’t talked to Coach Pitino.”

Georgia: “They have just been trying to get me over for another unofficial visit. I think it’s a really good program. I watched them in the NIT.”

Georgia Tech: “They have a good program, too. I’ve watched a few of their games. Their coaches have told me I can have a big impact right away and that they can help my offense develop more.”

Baylor: “They want me come visit whenever I’m free. They do a good job developing big men, so they are definitely under consideration.”

Texas: “They are recruiting me hard, too. I know they have done a good job developing their big men too, and they play really hard.”

WHAT’S NEXT?

Obiagu just wrapped his high school season and will now shift his focus to defending the last year’s Peach Jam title with the Georgia Stars. He tentatively plans to decide after the end of travel season. No visits have been scheduled yet.

RIVALS’ REACTION

Obiagu seems to be genuinely open in his recruitment. Baylor seems to have caught his attention and made him a priority early. The recent offer from Louisville could be one to watch. Georgia has had Obiagu on campus multiple times already and has built comfort level with him and his Georgia Stars teammates.
