Five-star Brown picks UCONN

Just a few days ago at the HoopHall Classic, five-star junior Zach Brown indicated that he wasn't too close to a decision as he prepared to visit Connecticut.

As it turns out, the No. 17 ranked player in the class of 2017 was very close. After his second unofficial visit to UConn on Tuesday, the 7-foot-1 product of Miami (Fla.) Senior High chose to commit to Kevin Ollie and the Huskies.

Brown isn't some skinny big man. He has a solidly built 250 pound frame, long arms and he's a true rim protector. He rebounds at a high volume, runs the floor fairly well and does a good job of keeping the ball high on the offensive end.

IN THE WORDS OF HIS GUARDIAN:

Brown's guardian Michael Lipman told Rivals.com that Brown was a fan of the environment created by Kevin Ollie at UConn.

"Zach is so excited with the family and brotherhood of the UConn team, staff and fans. He loves the incoming recruiting class and the chance to compete for a national championship."

RIVALS REACTION:

Anytime you can lock up a high profile recruit, it's good news. UConn has long been known for having a rim protecting big man and Brown falls right under that category.

Like many young big men, Brown can be a bit prone to foul trouble at times but he also embraces physical play and is a hard worker on the interior. Offensively he goes strong to the rim as often as possible and he has started to develop confidence in a baby hook shot that he can make with either hand. Because he's an around the rim player he doesn't have to worry too much about extending his shooting range but his free throw shooting is another area that can be improved.

Overall, Ollie and his staff have to be thrilled that their targeting and recruiting of Brown has led to an early commitment.
