Katy (Texas) Cinco Ranch point guard Jay Jay Chandler picked up this high school season right where he left off last travel season. He’s helped lead his high school team to a 21-5 record with just a few games to play in the regular season, and is currently averaging 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists per game.

Alabama, Baylor, Oklahoma, SMU, TCU, Texas and Texas A&M have been involved in his recruitment for a while now, while Georgia and UConn just recently jumped in on the four-star prospect.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Chandler shared his thoughts on some of the schools recruiting him.

Texas A&M: “They are playing really well. They lost a tough one to Arkansas the other night, but I like them a lot. It’s close to home. I have friends that go there that tell me I should go there. I definitely like them.”

Texas: “They have been doing pretty well. I like how they play really fast and keep the tempo up. I think that’s the style I fit in well with where everybody can score.”

Georgia: “Georgia came to my school the other day. He was telling me he likes the way I’ve been playing. He said he coaches the guards there and that they will be coming back to see me soon. They seem highly interested and they are on the rise, so they are catching my attention.”

Alabama: “I haven’t been able to watch them much because it seems like a lot of their games are the same nights I’m playing, but my dad told me they have been doing well. I get alerts on my phone to follow them. I talk to Coach [Bob] Simon and Coach Avery [Johnson] a lot over there.”

UConn: “They offered about two weeks ago. That’s a big school right there that everybody knows about with all the good guards they have had there. I like what their coaches told me about how they play and I’ve been watching them lately.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

His high school season is starting to heat up with the post-season around the corner, so that’s his primary focus right now. He said it is possible that he could sneak in a few unofficial visits, but doesn’t have any planned. He’ll once again be suiting up for Houston Hoops during the upcoming travel season.

RIVALS' REACTION

Chandler sounds like a kid that is nowhere near making a decision and it doesn’t appear that he’s heavily favoring any schools in particular. Texas and Texas A&M will likely be serious players in this one, and the offer from Kevin Ollie to play at UConn did seem to grab his attention.
