It was a big weekend for Creighton. On Saturday they knocked off DePaul to end a two game slide in the Big East. On Sunday, they toppled a huge recruiting domino when 2017’s No. 37 player, four-star shooting guard Mitchell Ballock committed to the Bluejays.

A 6-foot-4 junior from Eudora (Kans.) High, Ballock committed to head coach Greg McDermott while wrapping up his official visit in Omaha.

I realized it was the best situation for me," said Ballock. "I like their style of play.. I enjoyed the experience and all of the people are great people.

"Also, everything that coach and I talked about made me decide (Creighton) was the best decision for me."

A rangy off guard with good athleticism and deep range on his jumper, Ballock is at his best when he is putting the ball on the floor and attacking. He's not likely to play point guard in college, but he passes like one and because of that he helps to really open up an offense because he gives another playmaking option.

"I have been labeled a shooter, but I am best at putting the ball on the floor and making plays," said Ballock. "I think I will fit into the system very well because of my unselfishness and ability to make play."

Growing up just miles away from the University of Kansas campus, Ballock has been a regular visitor to KU games and a kid that many thought would be difficult to pry away from the Jayhawks.

"It was very difficult to tell Kansas no because they are 10 miles up the road from me and they have a great history and great coaching staff. I have a lot of respect for those guys."

"I am very excited to have this process over with because it will give me the chance to just focus on playing and not worrying about where I'm going or who's watching or any of that."

Ballock is Creighton's second four-star commitment from the class of 2017. He joins shooting guard Ty-Shon Alexander who currently ranks No. 86 overall in the Rivals150.
